The Sacramento Police Department rolled out a new program to make people more aware of just how inebriated they are before getting in a vehicle.
First off, you shouldn’t be getting drunk and driving in the first place. There are plenty of other ways to find transportation, everyone should be responsible for themselves and know their limit. Unfortunately not everyone does, and not everyone cares. I was watching this news report(provided below) to see police officers entering bars to giving people breathalyzers. Now as far as this new report goes, it certainly shows the cops not harassing people, it doesn’t really show anything negative either. Or does it?
What the report does not tell us is if everyone volunteered to do this, I’m going to assume they did. Also keep in mind they have been drinking, so when you see cops roll into a bar, you do tend to get tense and the only way for these cops to approach this without any backlash is to be nice right? The report showed some statistics, which in my opinion are a bit skewed, considering each year there are more and more sobriety checkpoints set up on holidays such as this weekend. Common sense is going to tell us that the numbers will indeed go up.
Anyway, without getting too deep into this situation, I just wanted to point out that cops should not be going into bars with breathalyzers, but I also wanted to point out that each and every one of you need to be accountable for your actions, always be responsible when you are out drinking. I also want you to know that if a cop walks into a bar and breathalyzes you, be sure that cop will be watching you as you leave the bar.
I do not condone getting drunk and getting behind the wheel, but I also do not condone cops randomly entering bars to check your alcohol level in your blood. This could just be a trial run, cops being nice about it, making you think they are doing it for your safety(which could be true), and eventually this becomes an everyday thing. Cops conditioning you into thinking this is okay, getting you ready for the bigger picture and trampling on your rights even more. Just keep an eye out.
Drink responsibly, don’t drive drunk, don’t allow a cop to walk into a bar and randomly breathalyze you!
